Free Project Plan - Owl Puzzle!

  • Varnish of choice 
Preparation:
  • Seal and sand wood pieces. 
  • Basecoat all pieces in Soft Blue. Be careful to avoid applying paint on the edges of the puzzle pieces that connect. Once completely opaque and dry, use the Sanding Stick around connecting edges of pieces to clean excess paint off. This will ensure your puzzle will fit together easily. 
  • Lightly transfer branches, leaves and outlines of owls. 
  • Basecoat branches using the 1/4” Angular brush in Espresso. 
  • Basecoat leaves and stems with Hauser Light Green using the #2 Round and 1/8” Angular. 

Yellow Owl 
Painting Instructions:
  • Basecoat in Primary Yellow with the 1/2” Angular brush. When dry, lightly transfer body details. 
  • Paint the beak, ears and body stripes Lemon Yellow. 
  • Feet, hair, eyebrows and glasses are Lamp Black. 
  • Use the 10/0 Script Liner to paint Primary Yellow lines on the glasses. 
  • Divide the toes with a short line of Titanium White. 

Pink Owl 
Painting Instructions:
  • Basecoat in Poodleskirt Pink. When dry, lightly transfer body details. 
  • Paint the wings, ears, beak, rings around the eyes, eyelashes and x’s on belly with Royal Fuchsia. 
  • Eyes are Titanium White with Lamp Black pupils. 
  • Line curls from ears with Poodleskirt Pink. 
  • Divide the toes with a short line of Titanium White.

Green Owl 
Painting Instructions:
  • Basecoat with Bright Green. When dry, lightly transfer body details. 
  • Eye rings, wings, ears, beak and diamonds on belly are Citron Green. 
  • Eyebrows are Lamp Black. 
  • Eyes are Titanium White with Lamp Black pupils. 
  • Divide the toes with a short line of Titanium White. 
Blue Owl
Painting Instructions:
  • Basecoat with Bahama Blue. When dry, lightly transfer body details. 
  • Ears, eyebrows, beak, wings and checks on belly are Desert Turquoise. 
  • Eyes are Titanium White with Lamp Black pupils. 
  • Glasses are Lamp Black. 
  • Divide the toes with a short line of Titanium White. 

Red Owl
Painting Instructions:
  • Basecoat with Cadmium Red. When dry, lightly transfer body details. 
  • Ears, eyebrows, eye rings, beak, wings, and u’s on belly are Tuscan Red. 
  • Eyes are Titanium White with Lamp Black pupils. 
  • Divide the toes with a short line of Titanium White. 
Purple Owl
Painting Instructions:
  • Basecoat with Purple Cow. When dry, lightly transfer body details. 
  • Ears, eyebrows, eye rings, beak and wings are Dioxazine Purple. Use stylus to apply dots on belly with same colour. 
  • Eyes are Titanium White with Lamp Black pupils. 
  • Divide the toes with a short line of Titanium White. 

Orange Owl
Painting Instructions:
  • Basecoat with Tangerine. When dry, lightly transfer body details. 
  • Ears, eye rings, beak, wings and belly detail are Cadmium orange. 
  • Eyes are Titanium White with Lamp Black pupils. 
  • Divide the toes with a short line of Titanium White. 
Finishing:
  • Erase all transfer lines still visible. 
  • Apply thin, even coats of varnish of choice over entire puzzle while pieces are fitted together. Take puzzle apart after each coat has been applied so it won’t stick together. If needed, use the Sanding Stick to clean the edges between coats. 
  • Outline all owls with using the Black Identi-Pen’s fine tip. Also outline the Yellow Owls stripes and ears. 
  • If desired, mix Espresso with varnish (1:1 ratio) and paint the back of the puzzle pieces, taking care to avoid edges.
